TRON DAO has released java-tron GreatVoyage-v4.8.2, a mandatory node upgrade codenamed Pyrrho. The update focuses on improving TRON Virtual Machine compatibility with Ethereum execution-layer standards tied to the Pectra and Osaka upgrade paths.
Node operators must complete the upgrade before August 16, 2026, at 23:59 SGT. The requirement applies to full nodes and solidity nodes, with operators warned that failing to update may cause synchronization issues or loss of mainnet compatibility.
TVM Update Tracks Ethereum Execution Standards
GreatVoyage-v4.8.2 introduces technical changes aligned with newer Ethereum Improvement Proposals. The release adds support for the CLZ instruction and the secp256r1 precompile, expanding the cryptographic and execution logic available inside the TVM.
That compatibility matters because developers increasingly expect EVM-like environments to track Ethereum’s tooling and execution behavior. By adopting related primitives, TRON can reduce friction for teams building applications across Ethereum-adjacent ecosystems.
The release also includes a migration from fastjson to Jackson in the API framework. That change is intended to improve stability and performance while modernizing part of the node software stack.
Operators Face Migration Requirements
TRON is also moving monitoring infrastructure toward Prometheus, giving node operators a more standardized way to track system behavior. Better monitoring is important during mandatory upgrades because operators need quick visibility into sync status, performance and errors.
Event plugin users must upgrade to version 3.0.0 under the required migration order. That sequencing matters because plugin compatibility can affect downstream indexing, application data flows and infrastructure services.
The Pyrrho release follows TRON’s recent post-quantum signature testing on the Nile testnet, but the two updates target different layers. Nile focused on future cryptographic resilience, while GreatVoyage-v4.8.2 is aimed at immediate production compatibility and execution-layer modernization.
TRON’s mandatory upgrade gives operators a clear deadline for maintaining mainnet compatibility. The next useful indicators will be node adoption, migration stability, API compatibility, plugin readiness and whether TVM alignment with Ethereum standards improves developer portability.
