Swiss cantonal bank BancaStato has launched regulated cryptocurrency trading inside its existing banking channels, giving customers access to buy, sell and hold digital assets through its web and mobile applications.
The initial offering supports Bitcoin, Ether, Litecoin and Solana. The integration connects BancaStato to Sygnum’s regulated digital asset infrastructure through Avaloq’s banking software environment.
API Integration Reduces the Burden of Building Crypto Services
BancaStato is the first bank using Avaloq’s software-as-a-service environment to deploy crypto trading through Sygnum’s API. The model allows the bank to add digital assets without creating an independent custody and trading stack from the ground up.
Sygnum Chief B2B Officer Fritz Jost said the infrastructure gives banks a faster route into regulated digital asset services. Institutions can use an established provider for execution, custody and operational support instead of separately building and licensing each component.
For customers, the integration places crypto access alongside conventional banking products. Users can manage supported digital assets through the same interfaces they already use for other financial services.
Swiss Banks Expand Regulated Digital Asset Access
The launch adds BancaStato to Sygnum’s growing institutional partner network. The company’s B2B relationships also include Société Générale-FORGE, PostFinance and VZ Depotbank.
Sygnum’s Liechtenstein subsidiary also received a MiCA crypto-asset service provider licence in late June. That authorization may support further regulated expansion as financial institutions adapt their digital asset services to Europe’s emerging compliance framework.
The current rollout remains limited to four supported cryptocurrencies, and no timeline has been announced for additional assets or products. Future expansion will depend on customer demand, regulatory requirements and BancaStato’s product strategy.
BancaStato’s launch shows regulated crypto trading moving deeper into established banking infrastructure. The next useful indicators will be customer adoption, trading activity, additional asset support and whether more Avaloq-based banks adopt Sygnum’s API model.
