Chain Report Ethical Journalism Policy
Last updated: February 11, 2026
This policy complements the public Editorial Policy and establishes binding internal standards for newsroom conduct.
This policy governs the ethical standards applicable to all ChainReport employees, contributors, editors, and freelance writers (“Journalists”) involved in producing editorial content related to blockchain technology, digital assets, and financial infrastructure.
1. Accuracy, Verification, and Fair Representation
– Accuracy
ChainReport requires factual verification prior to publication.
Journalists must rely on identifiable, credible, and verifiable sources. Claims relating to financial performance, token supply, protocol mechanics, regulatory status, or market activity must be supported by primary documentation, public filings, official statements, or attributable sources.
Headlines, summaries, and social media posts must reflect the substance of the article and must not exaggerate or distort material facts.
When a factual error is identified, it will be corrected promptly. Material corrections will be reflected within the article in a transparent manner.
– Fair Representation
Coverage must avoid selective framing that materially misrepresents context.
Where a story involves regulatory disputes, technical controversies, or conflicting claims, reasonable efforts will be made to include relevant perspectives or indicate when comment was sought but not provided.
ChainReport distinguishes between:
News reporting
Analysis
Opinion
Opinion pieces are clearly identified and do not necessarily reflect the views of ChainReport.
2. Conflicts of Interest and Financial Integrity
Given the financial sensitivity of the digital asset industry, heightened standards apply.
– Personal Holdings and Trading
Journalists must not cover specific assets, tokens, or projects in which they or their immediate family hold a financial position that could reasonably be perceived as influencing coverage.
Front-running or trading based on knowledge of unpublished editorial content is strictly prohibited.
Journalists are required to disclose relevant crypto holdings internally to editorial management when assigned to related coverage.
Editorial leadership may reassign stories where appropriate to preserve independence.
– Relationships and Commercial Separation
If coverage involves an entity that has a commercial relationship with ChainReport (including advertisers, sponsors, or paid partners), that relationship must be clearly disclosed within the article.
Editorial and commercial teams operate separately. Advertising agreements do not influence editorial conclusions, topic selection, or tone.
Sponsored content is labeled and governed by a separate policy.
3. Transparency and Source Protection
– Source Standards
ChainReport prioritizes on-the-record sourcing.
Anonymous sources may be used only when:
The information is materially newsworthy
There is a legitimate reason for anonymity
The information cannot reasonably be obtained otherwise
The identity of anonymous sources must be known to editorial management.
We do not publish unverified market rumors or unsubstantiated claims framed as fact.
– Use of AI and Editorial Tools
Research tools, including AI-assisted systems, may be used in drafting or background research.
All content is subject to human editorial review prior to publication.
AI systems are not permitted to fabricate quotes, data, events, or attributions. Responsibility for accuracy remains with the assigned journalist and editor.
4. Financial Data and Market Coverage
Because the cryptocurrency sector involves volatility and heightened fraud risk, additional care is required.
– Market and Price Data
Market data must be sourced from identifiable and reputable providers. When referencing price movements, timeframes should be clearly stated to avoid misleading impressions.
Past performance must not be presented as indicative of future results.
– Airdrops, Promotions, and Fraud Risk
ChainReport exercises caution when reporting on airdrops, token launches, or promotional campaigns.
We do not publish promotional material disguised as news.
Where credible evidence suggests fraudulent conduct, ChainReport may investigate and report accordingly.
5. Accountability and Enforcement
Violations of this policy may result in internal review and corrective action, which may include reassignment, suspension, or termination of contractual relationship.
Serious breaches involving financial misconduct, fabrication, or undisclosed conflicts may result in immediate termination.
6. Reporting Concerns
