Commercial Policy

Last updated:

ChainReport is free to read. Our reporting is funded by advertising, sponsored content and affiliate partnerships. This policy explains how each of them works, how commercial content is labelled, and how we keep it from shaping our journalism.

The rule behind everything else

Commercial partners never decide what we cover, how we frame a story or what conclusions we reach. Our reporters do not write sponsored content, and no partner sees or approves a news story before it is published. Paying for an advertisement or a sponsored article does not buy coverage, and refusing to do so does not lead to negative coverage.

Companies and projects can pay to publish an article or a press release on ChainReport. This content is written or supplied by the company, not by our newsroom. To make sure no reader mistakes it for our reporting:

  • It is published in its own section and carries a visible Sponsored or Press Release label next to the headline.
  • Its structured data identifies it as advertiser content, and the links it contains are marked as sponsored, so search engines do not treat them as editorial endorsements.
  • It is not included in our news feed for news aggregators.

We review every submission before publication and decline it, or remove it later, if it:

  • promises or implies guaranteed returns, or plays down the risk of losing money;
  • pushes readers to act urgently, for example with countdowns or “last chance” claims;
  • impersonates another company or makes claims about third parties it cannot support;
  • promotes a product we have reason to believe is fraudulent or operates without required authorization.

The company that pays for the content is responsible for its claims. Publishing it does not mean that ChainReport has verified those claims or recommends the product.

Some articles may link to exchanges, wallets or other services with which we have an affiliate agreement. If you sign up or buy through one of those links, ChainReport may earn a commission, at no extra cost to you.

Whenever an article contains affiliate links, it says so near the links themselves, not only on this page. Affiliate agreements do not affect which services we write about or what we say about them, and we do not add affiliate links to news stories about the company involved.

Display advertising

We may show advertisements, delivered directly or through advertising networks, in clearly separated spaces on our pages. Ads are never placed inside a news story in a way that could be mistaken for its content. Showing an ad does not mean we endorse the advertiser. If an ad looks misleading or fraudulent, please tell us and we will investigate it.

Any use of cookies or personal data for advertising is described in our Privacy and Cookies pages, and requires your consent where the law asks for it.
