Base Launches MCP Tool Linking AI Agents to Wallets and DeFi Protocols

Futuristic neon scene of AI agents connecting Base wallets to DeFi protocols via a central on-chain wallet.

Base launched Base MCP on May 26, 2026, giving users a way to connect their Base Account to AI interfaces such as Claude, ChatGPT, Codex and Cursor. The tool allows users to request actions including transfers, swaps, balance checks, transaction-history reviews and supported DeFi interactions through natural-language prompts inside a chat interface.

The system is built on the Model Context Protocol, an open standard introduced by Anthropic to connect AI-powered tools with external systems and data sources. In Base’s implementation, the protocol acts as a gateway between AI agents and Base Account wallet functions, rather than giving the agent independent custody over user assets.

User Approval Remains the Execution Checkpoint

Base said every onchain action still requires user review and approval. When an agent proposes a transaction, Base Account opens in a new window, shows the expected asset changes and lets the user confirm or cancel before funds move, making manual approval the final control layer.

The MCP server does not hold or access private keys. According to Base, the system constructs a request, stores it as pending and sends the user an approval link, while authentication into Base MCP uses OAuth 2.1 and stored-request primitives already tied to Base Account. That design keeps transaction signing inside the user-controlled wallet flow.

DeFi Integrations Define the Launch Scope

At launch, Base MCP includes skill plugins for Morpho, Moonwell, Aerodrome, Bankr, Avantis, Virtuals and Uniswap. Those integrations cover functions such as lending-market discovery, supplying and borrowing assets, swaps, liquidity management, perps positions, token discovery and agent-token activity, making DeFi access the main initial use case.

Base’s setup documentation shows that users can connect the MCP server through supported clients, with the listed server URL https://mcp.base.org and OAuth authentication for ChatGPT and other compatible environments. The docs also state that send, swap or sign operations return an approval link for Base Account review, reinforcing the non-custodial approval model.

The launch positions Base MCP as infrastructure for an agent-driven onchain workflow, where users can compress multi-step wallet and DeFi actions into conversational requests. The confirmed status is narrower than the broader AI narrative: Base MCP is live, supports defined wallet and protocol actions, and still requires user approval before execution.
