Aerodrome Reports Record BTC Trading Dominance on Base for July

Aerodrome Finance captured a majority of Bitcoin-dollar spot trading across EVM-compatible decentralized exchanges in July, strengthening its position as a major liquidity venue on Base. The protocol said 54% of all EVM DEX BTC-USD volume during the month passed through Aerodrome, putting its activity above the combined share of competing EVM decentralized exchanges.

The scale becomes clearer in Aerodrome’s official July trading update. The protocol said $8.4 billion in spot BTC-USD trading occurred during July, with $4.2 billion taking place on Base and approximately $3.5 billion on Aerodrome itself. Those figures make Aerodrome responsible for most of Base’s observed Bitcoin-dollar activity during the period.

Base emerges as a major venue for on-chain Bitcoin liquidity

The July numbers suggest that Bitcoin liquidity on EVM networks is becoming increasingly concentrated around Base and Aerodrome. Roughly half of the broader spot BTC-USD activity cited by Aerodrome occurred on Base, while Aerodrome processed about 83% of the $4.2 billion attributed to the network.

Aerodrome’s broader position on Base provides context for that concentration. Independent tracker DefiLlama continues to identify substantial decentralized exchange activity and liquidity on the protocol. Its role as a primary liquidity marketplace on Base gives Bitcoin-linked assets an established pool infrastructure rather than requiring liquidity to fragment across numerous smaller venues.

The figures also show why headline trading volume should be distinguished from the source of demand. Neither Aerodrome’s disclosure nor the available protocol data identifies how much July BTC activity came from institutions, professional market makers or retail traders, making it premature to attribute the increase to any particular participant group.

Sustaining liquidity becomes the next test

High July volume gives Aerodrome a strong position in EVM-based Bitcoin markets, but monthly dominance does not guarantee that liquidity will remain concentrated indefinitely. DEX routing can change rapidly as incentives, trading costs and available liquidity shift between protocols, meaning future market share will depend on whether traders continue finding competitive execution on Aerodrome.

The development is nevertheless significant for Base. A single DEX processing $3.5 billion of Bitcoin-dollar spot activity demonstrates that BTC liquidity on EVM networks is no longer confined to Ethereum mainnet or spread evenly across multiple chains and protocols.

For Aerodrome, the next benchmark will be persistence rather than another isolated record. If BTC-USD volume remains concentrated on the protocol after July, Aerodrome could strengthen Base’s role as a recurring venue for on-chain Bitcoin trading rather than merely benefiting from a particularly active month.
