Cardano used TOKEN2049 Singapore to showcase two infrastructure themes increasingly converging across blockchain development: machine-to-machine payments and programmable regulated assets. A 108-square-meter ecosystem booth funded through Cardano’s treasury attracted more than 2,000 visitors over the two-day event, while developers competing in the Origins Hackathon focused heavily on payment and verification tools for autonomous AI agents.
According to Cardano’s October 14 Community Digest, more than 20 ecosystem projects participated at the booth following treasury funding approved through Cardano governance. The Foundation also co-organized a Rooftop UTXO Pitch Night with Draper Dragon that brought together more than 90 investors, nine teams and over 400 attendees, with as much as $500,000 in potential funding available. Those figures measure event participation and funding opportunities rather than production usage of applications built on Cardano.
The stronger technical signal came from the TOKEN2049 Origins Hackathon. Around 200 builders participated in the 36-hour event, with roughly 130 submitting to the Cardano track either exclusively or alongside other tracks. Developers were challenged to build around x402 and an emerging agentic economy in which software can initiate payments and verify services programmatically.
Cardano Hackathon Targets Agentic Payments
Three projects emerged from the Cardano track. CoinGraph, which also won the overall hackathon grand prize, built a verification layer intended to help AI agents check information before moving funds. Cardano Card explored purchases of physical goods using Masumi Network escrow, while zx402 focused on private funding for autonomous agents through zero-knowledge proofs. The winning projects moved beyond generic AI branding by targeting payment authorization, real-world commerce and privacy around agent-controlled capital.
Cardano had already become an official x402-supported chain earlier in 2026, with Masumi adding identity, refund, dispute and decision-recording components around the payment standard. Similar machine-payment infrastructure is appearing elsewhere: Injective has deployed x402-based agent payments on mainnet, while Solana infrastructure is testing batch settlement for high-frequency x402 micropayments. The common technical problem is no longer merely allowing an AI model to initiate a transaction, but controlling authority, settlement and verification around that action.
Wallet infrastructure is developing along the same path. The Cardano Digest highlighted native Cardano support in the Open Wallet Standard, including transaction signing and policy-based controls for agents. That places Cardano alongside the broader effort to give autonomous software constrained wallet access rather than unrestricted private-key authority. MoonPay’s Open Wallet Standard takes a similar modular approach to agent signing and policy controls.
Programmable Tokens Move Onto Mainnet
TOKEN2049 also coincided with the mainnet deployment of Cardano’s CIP-0113 programmable-token implementation. Cardano Foundation said the system allows issuers of stablecoins, tokenized funds, bonds and other regulated assets to embed rules covering KYC, sanctions screening, transfer restrictions, freezes and seizures directly into token logic. Those rules can be enforced when qualifying assets are transferred, minted or burned without requiring a Cardano hard fork.
The underlying CIP remains formally listed as Proposed in Cardano’s proposal repository, even though an implementation is now operating on mainnet. Implementation status and CIP governance status are therefore not identical. The design uses existing Cardano primitives to make programmable assets remain native Cardano tokens while adding script-enforced transfer conditions.
Veridian provides the first disclosed application. The Cardano Foundation spun the digital identity project out as an independent Swiss company on October 8 and said Veridian’s shares were tokenized as ledger-based securities under Switzerland’s DLT Act using CIP-0113. The company plans to seek strategic partners and investors in 2027, so the issuance establishes a functioning example of the standard without demonstrating broad capital-market adoption.
The Singapore activity consequently shows two distinct parts of Cardano’s infrastructure strategy developing in parallel. Agent-payment tooling is moving through hackathons, wallet standards and x402 integrations, while programmable assets have progressed to a mainnet implementation and an initial tokenized-equity use case. What remains unproven is scale: sustained agent payment volume, recurring commercial usage and wider issuance through CIP-0113 will determine whether those technical foundations translate into measurable network activity.
