Ethereum core developers have rescheduled the Glamsterdam upgrade on the Sepolia testnet for October 6, 2026, giving client teams additional time to stabilize the upgrade before moving onto long-lived public testnets. The new date replaces the previously discussed September 28 target as developers prioritize successful multi-client testing before the fork. The decision was reached during AllCoreDevs Consensus meeting #186.
Developers agreed that October 6 offered a safer window after recent devnet testing exposed client and consensus issues requiring further work. A date for the Hoodi activation remains undecided, while teams plan additional testing before progressing toward Glamsterdam’s mainnet deployment, which Ethereum’s current roadmap still targets for Q4 2026.
EIP-8037 Fix Moves Into Client Implementation
The meeting also produced agreement on a fix affecting EIP-8037, one of Glamsterdam’s scheduled gas-repricing changes. Client teams agreed to implement a cross-frame state-gas accounting fix and deploy it for further DevNet-8 testing, following review by multiple execution-layer teams.
EIP-8037 introduces separate metering for state creation costs, covering operations such as new accounts, storage slots and contract deployment. The proposal is intended to better align gas charges with the long-term cost of Ethereum state growth, particularly as higher block gas limits increase pressure on node storage and performance.
The broader testing process is already running through Platåberget, the public Glamsterdam devnet launched in August. The testnet gives developers and infrastructure providers a persistent environment for testing gas repricing, ePBS, block-level access lists and other Glamsterdam changes before they reach Sepolia and Hoodi.
Hegotá Development Moves Forward
Attention is also beginning to shift toward Hegotá, Ethereum’s next major upgrade after Glamsterdam. Client teams have been asked to rank proposed Hegotá EIPs and provide their reasoning by September 10, helping developers narrow the fork’s eventual scope.
Among the prominent proposals is EIP-8141, Frame Transactions, which introduces a new transaction structure allowing validation, execution and gas payment to be defined more flexibly. Frame Transactions are designed to advance native account abstraction, enabling features such as alternative authentication, key rotation, sponsored gas and atomic batching directly at the protocol level.
Ethereum’s current roadmap places Hegotá in 2027, with its final scope still under development. For now, Glamsterdam remains the immediate priority, and the Sepolia delay reflects a deliberate preference for stability over maintaining an earlier testing deadline.
